Project-based Learning

What are the most important elements of PBL? I think the most important elements include interest, effectiveness, focusing on students and challenge of problem-solving. We must recognize the traditional instruction is full of boring, memorial learning and highlight the importance of test. Try to think the real world, all we need on working is problem-solving and it doesn’t depend on test, isn’t it? Success on working needs critical thinking, collaboration and communication which are less taught in traditional classroom.

So we must focus students on a project which put them on a path that deepens their knowledge and build skills they’ll need in the future. But how to do PBL? In the beginning we should make students care the authentic problem in life. Then make them produce questions of the problem from discussion. The third, put students into several teams and guide them to critically think, communicate and collaborate each other. After researching they will find out the solution of problem in authentic life.  If they find new problem in any step above, they will start another problem-solving which make the process of PBL like a cycle. Finally, they will share the products of research from presentation. Knowledge shouldn’t be tested, and new knowledge will be gained when students need it to solve authentic problem. Learning how to learn is the core of PBL. (大坪國小,104-10-11)
