Return to the forest

In the presentation, I talk about the idea: Return to the forest!  Thus I focus on our environmental education curriculum including three pathways: water, energy and biodiversity. In addition, I also outline how we interact with partner school, Tequesta Trace Middle School.

Let’s watch the Google Map. You will find there is a reservoir in the north of school, and another one in the south. Hence there are two source protection zones around school. What does this mean? It means that there are a lot of creatures around our campus!

My children are so lucky to own a big forest. For that reason, we set the educational ideas. We should help children reconcile with nature. We also should help children obtain multiple intelligence from nature.

Sometimes the female snakes show up in front of the principal’s office. What does the snake want? She comes here just for laying eggs! What should we do when snakes show up? Kill it? Eat it? Call 911? Or let it go?

When snakes show up, we make them become a part of the curriculum. We utilize “the sense of wonder” for the snakes to build the curriculum.

We could use these strategies: Popular science reading and writing. First, do the start behavior analysis. Secondly, read the science article about snakes. Thirdly, do the information extraction. Then, do the text analysis by concept mapping. Finally, do the text reconstruction: writing a popular science article. (105-07-19,大坪國小)
